Monday 8:15am: Beat Usain Bolt!

 

Sure....you can beat Usain. Maybe not at running, but at something...right? Believe me, you can. Read on....

 

Seriously, on July 4, 1891 Luther Cary ran a world record in the 100 meters race in 10.8 seconds. Now, that's really fast running, but would be last place in a race of today's elite 100 meter runners. 

 

 

What changed?

 

In short, everything changed. Training, diet, coaching, identifying runners with elite level talent, etc. The fastest man in the world is still Usain Bolt from Jamaica who ran the 100 meters in 9.58 seconds in 2009. WHY did Bolt run so fast, eclipsing the world record that HE HIMSELF SET only a year before by almost 1/10 of 1 second (which is a huge amount in sprinting). 

 

He ran so fast, simply put, because he wanted to. 

 

Now, Usain is blessed with incredible talent and a work ethic to match. But, don't overlook the fact that he SET A GOAL to run under 9.6 seconds for the first time in the history of mankind....and then, he did it. Simple....and stunning.

 

As salespeople, most of you have goals. Most of those goals are set by your employer, but some might be set by yourself. 

 

This week I challenge you to become the Greatest (insert name here) Of All Time! 

 

That's right, I want you to set a concrete, written performance goal for yourself that you WILL live up to. You can make it a goal for just one week, or perhaps a month. If you're really adventurous you can set it for the rest of this year. When you write that goal down and must answer to it, it becomes like a mile marker. You an always measure how far you are away from the goal simply by looking at where you are, versus where you said you were going to go. Set a goal that will have you be the best you've ever been (in sales) and then, live up to it. The very process of setting it will put you in a different mindset.....a success mindset that will have you acting, working, and performing differently. Don't miss this chance to the be the best you've ever been.

 

Set a goal that has you performing better than you EVER have before...don't be scared. The goal is the first step to your personal "world sales record". 

 

Can Usain Bolt beat you at the 100 meter dash? Yeah....he can. Can he get more referrals than you are going to get? I doubt it.....but do you hear those footsteps running up behind you? Better set that goal and cross the finish line in first place!
