Tuesday 8:15am: Treat yourself.

 

Are you tired of being dissed? Tired of referral sources ignoring you or treating you with indifference? What if I told you it was your fault this was happening? In fact, what if I told you that you were actually encouraging this behavior? 

 

Hey, hate the message...not the messenger.

 

I was all around the country last week working onsite with 3 different clients. I found myself saying the same thing 3 separate times....a phrase that I've never said, but have always attempted to get across to my students.

 

"Treat yourself like the professional you want to be treated like".

 

Do you do this? Do you treat yourself and your job as a consummate professional? Do you approach this job as a sales pro with the look, the energy, the tools, the strategy, and the persistence that success demands? Perhaps I can ask this another way:

 

"If you don't treat yourself like a true sales professional, why should anyone else?"

 

I see this all the time. Nice people, doing nice things, to other nice people...and hoping for success. Then, it doesn't happen and they get upset or discouraged. Then, they do less and less real selling and the results are predictable. 

 

 

So....what can you do to change this? Simple, treat yourself every day like a true sales pro. Dress like one, talk like one, act like one, and then perform like one. If you're tired of being treated like a second class citizen in your referral accounts, it's up to you to change it. Take a new stance with these people and watch them treat you differently. The difference between the few sales reps who are succeeding and those that are failing is simple...attitude. If you don't know how to look, act, and speak....find a successful salesperson in any industry and study them. Find out what impresses you about them and emulate it. 

 

I wish I could impress upon you how much your attitude dictates your success. Go out expecting to be treated differently and lo and behold, eventually you will. Our industry can use a sales facelift and YOU can be a part of that change.
